Adventure 703: Catalina State Park Revisited/Post K

We're enjoying our last night in site A 44, but not our last hike.Tomorrow morning we're going to the boundary line on the Fifty Year Trail. 5.2 miles round trip plus the distance from camp to the trail head which adds another 1.6m. We've been average a little over two miles per hour so we figure to leave a a little before 8 A.M. to be back in time to check out by noon. Then we'e off for some inner city camping. It will be a new experience. So we're excited.

Meanwhile, it looks as though the winds are blowing America toward treating Covid as an endemic rather than a pandemic. Just deal with it. I said from the outset that it will be hard to get all the Cool Cats in America on the same page. We're all going to make our own risk assessments, and none of us like being told what to do. Add to that the malice of the previous administration, the uneven messaging from the present administration, and the general recalcitrance that several million of our fellow Americans, it easy to see the societal waters settling into a murky pool. In some places, like Washington D.C. the murk has become mud flung far and wide by the demons of self-interest. So, I've come to the conclusion that it's swim at your own risk.

For us, the adjustments have been small. We're vaxxed and boosted. We're masked indoors; we eat take out; we'll likely not attend any large gatherings, and we'll enjoy the outdoors as much as we're able for as long as we're able. That alone inspires my belief that life is good, especially today.

P.S. My fortunes have completely reversed on the cribbage board. I'm now ahead $1.98 thanks to an unbelievable run of skunks and big wins. Not to gloat. I know too well that the pendulum is already swinging back. But I did think I heard a coyote howling. It sounded like a female.

Selfie of the day.
Good bye saguaros.
My hiking buddy.

Good bye, Catalina Mountains.

Peace out.
