Adventure 698: Catalina State Park Revisited/Post F

We decided to replace the front brake pads on Fric which meant another O dark thirty rise, a trip into town with several of our new commuter friends, and a three hour wait for the work to be done. All of that was good. Not so good was the the Wiley Cager thrashed me for the third straight day. Only by the thinnest of margins did I escape a third straight skunk. As it is you should be able to hear the Cager cackling like the Wicked Witch of the East with her $2.06 lead. Four days into the month and I'm in a hole so deep only my shiny head is showing. Don't worry, Like McArthur, I'll be back. After our mechanical adventure, we ventured up toward the Romero Pools for our afternoon hike. We went three miles up into the mountains, but turned back before we made it to the pools. The sheer rock face proved to be a little too daunting for us. Nevertheless, at the end of the hike after our shower, we're basking in the afterglow of a job well done. Six miles in the desert is one thing; adding three miles up in the mountains is another. Let's just say our legs are feeling it. Boulder scrambling might be for the younger set. Mostly, we're feeling that life is good, especially today.

We probably shouldn't have looked back.
We probably shouldn't have looked up.
Happy campers when we got back down.
It should tell you something that horses are not allowed beyond this point.

There's my hiker babe looking a lot like John Muir.
Some day we'll make it to the pools.
This wash water trickle confirms the rumor that there's water up in them mountains.
