Adventure 696: Catalina State Park Revisited/Post D

The Northern jet stream took a dive South today. The forecast for the next few days has highs around fifty and hard freeze warnings in effect at night. The Ranger just came around to our trailer and advised us to disconnect our water line for the next few nights. It's a reality that Tucson can get cold in February. And not just cold. Today the wind blew in the 18-20 mph range. It was so blustery, I rolled up the awning just to be safe. We remained undaunted by the weather. We hiked 6 miles on the Sutherland Trail which eventually climbs 700 ft. into the Cargodera Canyon and intersects with the Mt. Lemon Trail. We turned around just after the trail entered the wilderness area. The scenery was splendid, although some parts of the trail were closely bordered with tall grasses. We were glad the rattlesnakes are under ground right now because the grass would provide excellent cover for them. We took a break on a bench that overlooked the mountain range just to savor the beauty of the desert and consider ourselves lucky. If we were home where tonight's forecast says a low of 13 degrees, we'd hardly be hiking. On a very sad note, at least for me, the Wiley Cager extended her lead this morning with a monumental skunk. I was very close to the double skunk line, which would have been even more harsh. Let's just say she's taken a triple figure lead so far in February. Grrrr! Not to worry, life is still good, especially today.

From here the Sutherland Trail begins to climb nearly a thousand feet into the mountains.
Selfie of the day.
We just learned today that we can adopt a saguaro. It's hard to choose.
Snake country.
The view from the bench where we rested.
That's me crying, or at least smelling like a skunk.
Who says Wiley Cagers play fair?

Rock a bye, baby.
