Adventure 742: Hutchinson, KS/Post B

Bright, cold skies greeted us yesterday morning. By 5 P.M. it warmed all the way up to 61 degrees. The good news is the biting wind kept itself down to around fifteen miles an hour. None of that deterred Judy and Arlene from their morning rounds of weight watchers, newsletter deliveries, and a trip to the Etcetera Shop. Meanwhile, Wib and I talked about the weather, woodworking, and a little of his family history. When the errand ladies returned we hopped in the car and headed to the King Farm for some gently raised beef, pork, and chicken. Then we headed for Yoder to the Carriage Crossing Restaurant for lunch. The restaurant, run by the Amish, is a favorite in the area. I'd offer to say it's worth the drive from just about any distance. Judy and I shared a fresh turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans. We passed on pie for dessert because Arlene planned to make a lemon pie after dinner. Needless to say, the scale inched up a bit after yesterday. The only sad note on the day was our beloved Zags lost to Arkansas. So it goes. Since we're in Kansas, our new call is Go Rock Chock Jayhawks. Today we head for Manhattan for a few days before we make our four day run back home. As usual, we'll pray for traveling mercies, and be grateful that life is good, especially today.

Seriously organic and lovingly produced.
Customers just walk into the freezer room, select what they want, and pay via the honor system. Gotta love the midwest.
I didn't get a picture, but all the young Amish girls who work in the restaurant drive their tractors in from the farm to get to work.
Wib and Arlene.
Arlene makes these dresses and gifts them to the African relief project which sends clothes and other goods to sub Saharan africa.
You want to come here if you ever get the chance.

Fresh turkey, real potatoes, real beans, and classic corn starch thickened gravy.
We need more of these family farms in America.

Good morning, Hutchinson.

We also passed on the cinnamon rolls, but they feel so good as they slather themselves onto you hips.
