Our day started with service at our adopted church: Southside Presbyterian. The message today centered on community building, community cooperation, community spirit, and the fact that, as John Donne said, "No man is an island." It's apropos for us, especially in the next weeks. Our community of "Dear Friends" will be joining us here in Tucson. Liz Ulmen arrived yesterday. Ed and Deb Drouin arrived today. Ross and Dinah Coble will arrive Thursday. I was thinking of how each of these folks enriches our lives when Pastor Alison Harrington was relating Jesus' sermon on the mount to the fact that we're all part of the same heavenly community. And even better, in the afternoon we broke bread (actually chili and a bunch of other good stuff) with another couple dear to us: David and Ginny Kral at their annual Super Bowl party. This year was made more special because the entire guest list was people from Spokane. Well, that's not quite true. The Kral's next door neighbor, Karl Kennedy, joined us for dinner and some of the game. We made him an honorary Spokanite. He's delightful. When we got home, Judy and I wintled (Wintling equals swaying gently back and forth like two entwined trees caressed by a light breeze) a bit in the kitchen, rubbing our plump bellies together. After the Super Bowl experience, we felt expanded not just in girth, but also in spirit. Clearly, enjoying a community of dear friends makes life good, especially today.
Three amigos: Deb, Liz, and Judy on their way to the Kral's for FOOTBALL.
It's good to have these two love birds join the party.
