The desert people complained today because of the bitter cold. While it's not the wet cold oof the Oregon coast, or biting cold we sometimes suffer through at home, last night's hard freeze poked me in the same way a brittle bush reaches out its needle sharp spikes when I brush a branch. Any contact, even a slight brush, emits a sharp reflex reaction. It seems this weather pattern of a couple days of uncomfortably cold weather is common in Tucson in February. We haven't experienced it before. We adapted. Since it was cold, we decided to take a recon drive to our next two camping spots. They are both in South Tucson, and both are urban campgrounds. We drove through downtown and by the University of Arizona, both of which are close to our next port of call. We returned to Frac about one. It was a balmy 54 by then so we did something really out of character. We went to an Airstream Happy Hour. A couple from St. Louis, Chris and Larry, invited everyone in an an Airtream for a get together. Bring your drink, something to snack on, and have a chat. There were about twenty people there from all over. It was fun. Although we mainly talked with one guy (Kelly). He and his wife have just sold their home in Houston and have been full timing for nearly a year. There was a couple from Rhode Island, a couple from the Oregon Coast, a couple from nearby Mesa, a couple from the West coast of Washington, and several people who came in I didn't get to talk to. We even hand entertainment. The hosts had a little miniature schnauzer named Daisy, and one couple brought a big she Lab named Stella. They sparred for most of the event, which means Daisy ran in speed circles around Stella, jumping quite often to nip Stella's forehead. High energy. Everyone seemed nice so it was an example that life can be good, especially today.
There's Daisy's owner and our host, Chris. I didn't catch the other lady's name.
Even the mountains look like they're shivering.
Mountain travel
Most of us sat in the sun. It cooled off quite quickly.
Round
and round
and round we go.
Hey, have you been to the Saguaro National Park? Are you able to camp there? Looks like your kind of park....
