Adventure 627: Franz Dome, Manhattan, Kansas/Post A

Susie, our GPS, zigged and zagged us through the cornfields of Nebraska until we rolled through the Flint Hills of Kansas into Manhattan. I think she was looking for a Biden sign-no luck). Today's drive started in pouring rain and not so distant rolling thunder. Before long, the rain ceased and the dark clouds moved on, leaving only steam rising from the highway. We stopped in Belleville, KS for lunch, the sleepy county seat of Republic county, population 1,887 as of 2018. The town calls itself the Crossroads of America. We turned East at the crossroads and traveled by and through many smaller towns on the way. We even passed a speed trap in the town of Barnes, KS. I can see why the policeman was there, (If he was awake). The highway skirts town in a banked turn. By the time a driver exits the turn, he/she is past the town. Luckily, I'm in no hurry, and I make a habit of slowing as I approach a new town, not just to avoid the law, but also to look at points of interest. America is an amazing place, and people have good reasons for where they live. Often these reasons are of interest to those who pass by. Karen met us outside as we arrived thanks to her tracking of Judy's phone. The sisters hugged, left me to secure the trailer, and disappeared into the house. I unhooked, parked Fric and Frac along Thackrey Avenue and secured things for our week's stay. We said as we began this journey, I guess as a nod to Robert Frost, "Who knows when we'll pass this way again?" In the meantime, we're choosing to enjoy ourselves since life is good, especially today.

Puzzles and card games will ensue this week.
