Adventure 195: Lake Havasu City, AZ/Post A

Clearly, a couple of seasoned 49ers.
Death in the Valley (Figuratively, that is). Stumpy's pockets are so full of the minerals she won on the last morning, she looks like a diapered baby after a full day at the park. But not so much woe for me because our visit to Death Valley counts as one of the best stops ever. It was great fun to share the experience with my cousin, Douglas. As you can see from the photo to the left, the desert has made its impact. As for adventure, the sites we saw didn't disappoint, and tomorrow will bring a another chance to recoup my losses at cribbage. We saw as much as we could during our time, and we vowed (God willing) to return. Judy and I left left about nine 9 A.M. and arrived in Lake Havasu City around 3 P.M. Jagged peaks, desert sage brush, an occasional bird, desolate roads, and eye searing light marked our journey of around 265 miles. We skirted the busy south end of Las Vegas, drove the straight in heaving empty road through Pahrump and Searchlight, and joined the big dogs on I-40 for  a stretch. Driving that far is my least favorite part of the RV experience, but sometimes connections must be made. Our spirits raised when we crossed the Colorado, and the great part was arriving at the Ellsworth RV Park, which has one site. We're tucked safely beside the garage in front of the shop sheds. Nothing was dented or crushed, so life is very good on that score. We had a wonderful evening under the clear warm Arizona skies. Mike and I talked a blue streak on every subject from war to heritage to immigration, to football (Seahawks) to basketball (The Zags) to the old days (School) to friends ( If he was Douglas, the talk would have included lovers-real and otherwise, but alas..there is only one Douglissimo). In all, it's great to see the Ellsworths. Tomorrow we plan to get a little water time on the pontoon boat, which is a great way to see this area. It's hard to believe that the Ellsworth's have been wintering here now for six years. It's just a testament to how time flies (Good times, or otherwise), and it sings another verse to my choir about experiencing what I can while I can. I feel blessed. In fact, I feel that I'm the luckiest guy on the planet, which simply put means that life is good, especially today.

We ate Kraut Runza's on the road today, which our cute grand babies helped make.

This California Hot Rod stopped us in our tracks on the way down from Pahrump, NV.
Needles in the background; the mighty Colorado River in the foreground.
Mike Ellsworth (Proprietor) showing us to site #1 at the Ellsworth RV Resort.

Resort amenities included a sunset dinner on the veranda.
 Kathy's herb garden.
The warmth of the sunset bathing the veranda.
Sunset in Lake Havasu City. The end of another lovely day!
