Adventure 241: Lake View RV Resort/Houston, TX/Post B

From Sweet Sixteen to the Elite Eight
Of course we couldn't wait until Saturday to find BBQ. We drove (With the help of Susie GPS) about a half an hour south to Pearland and found ourselves standing in line at Killen's BBQ. Killen, who opened this BBQ joint just over two years ago actually told the pit master at Franklin BBQ in Austin that HE was his benchmark for excellence, and his goal was to surpass Franklin in both taste and reputation. Last year, while in Austin, we drove by Franklin's  three times. Twice it was closed because it sells out everyday. Once, we got there to stand in a line that was around the block long. A cute little Texas cowgirl came out and told us we may be served, but by the time we got food there would be only drippings left. So we left to try another day. On our successful attempt, we parked Judy in line four hours before the place opened (She was sixth in line at 7 A.M.). We ate big plates of rich and juicy beef ribs, huge slabs of brisket, and all the trimmings. It was fabulous. We stood in line today as well, although the line wasn't as long. Killen's pulled pork is the best we've had in Texas. The brisket was also good, although it was a bit fatty for our taste. We didn't have the ribs. All in all, it was worth the trip. We fiddled around trying to find the back roads home, but had to resort to getting back on the tollways. No worries. We made it in time to get to the game. We met the woman who bought the extra tickets we had about five, and then we entered the stadium. We also used Judy's handicap sticker to park right in front of the stadium (She isn't embarrassed yet, and besides, she can limp on demand). The game was what coach Few would call a grinder, and he probably did. I didn't see the post game interview on TV because I was at the live game :) We didn't shoot well, but neither did UCLA because when they put a basketball floor inside a NFL football stadium, they can do everything except limit the immense space. Besides that the floor is raised about six feet off the ground, so it's all unusual for the players. Hopefully, we'll be used to it by Sunday because if we want to beat the Dukies, we'll have to be firing on all cylinders. It was very exciting to be at the game, although I must tell you, it's easy to see why people hate Duke. Their fans are many and they are rabidly obnoxious. It will be fun to catch some lightning in a bottle on Sunday. Nothing would be finer than to see a Duke blue liner in the mourning. But Sunday will be Sunday. For now, life is good, especially today.

This is the line an hour after the place opened.
Pulled Pork, Brisket, Pinto Beans, Creamed Corn and White Bread. Welcome to Texas.
We borrowed this little beauty so we could travel to the game in style.
 Home of the Houston Texans.
Roundball intend of oblong ball this weekend.
 Obligatory selfie.
 The hoops.
 The pre game dunks.
Off to the last pre game meeting.
Thankfully, these guys sat down during the game.
Coach Few making his way to the floor.
 Go Zags!
The Zag band was thumping. The crowd was jumping.
Byron Wesley at the line. He came up big tonight, as did quite a few of the Zags. Bring on the Boo Hoo Devils.
