Adventure 223: Hotel Kralzona/Tucson, AZ/Post A

A Jewel Right on the Edge of Tucson
What could be better: great day, great games, great friends. It all started with redemption as I trounced the Cager in our one game series in the Catalina Open. We had a restful night in the extremely quiet campground at Catalina State Park. We didn't realize it when we were staying at the Covered Wagon RV Park in Phoenix, but there was freeway traffic to be heard. None of that noise entered our sensibilities last night. We heard nothing except the serene sound of of the desert. We even took the star chart out for a while and gazed at the heavens. After the morning game (Did I mention that I won?), we rode the tandem for about eight miles around the park. Catalina State Park is designed mostly as a hiking venue. Trails wind through the washes and through the clefts in the mountains. It's not really suited for a road tandem. We got to Ginny and David's house about noon. We were greeted with huge hugs and even bigger smiles. Ginny served us a fabulous elk stew/soup dish for lunch. We sat out back under the shaded patio, gazing at their wonderful back yard, their mini-garden (Compared to their huge garden in Spokane), and the distant mountains. After lunch, we went for a swim, and then (Let the feasting continue) we ate a fabulous dinner of smoked chicken thighs and Ginny's famous vegetable pie. After dinner, we watched our favorite team (Go Zags) play a solid game in defeating Pepperdine. To top the night off, we watched one of the best classic movies ever, The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. I just have to tell you with this infusion of great games, great food, great entertainment, and great friends, it's no surprise that life is good, especially today.
