Adventure 228: Sunny Acres RV Park, Las Cruces, NM/Post C

Good spot. Follow the arrow.
Maybe she was miffed that I called her out as a Wylie Cager, but whatever, she pummeled me with sixteenies this morning. I was lucky not to be skunked. The score is tied 1-1 with one to play. We took a rest day today mostly because there was a smorgasbord of basketball games on, but also because we can. We'll leave tomorrow fairly early to make the long trek across West Texas. Well, actually we'll stay tomorrow night in Ft. Stockton, which isn't exactly out of the desolate vastness of West Texas. This morning we spent a n hour or so wandering around the Saturday market in downtown Las Cruces. It's quite an impressive array (Five blocks or so) of vendors that mostly sold art of some kind. The normal fare was represented: woodworkers, pottery, silver jewelry, sculptors, painters, etc. There were also a few vegetable vendors and those who sold honey, those who sold hot peppers, those who sold soap, and even an acupuncturist. In addition, there were at least six different musicians playing for donations, four or five food trucks, and a bicycle swap lot where guys were buying and selling bikes and parts. It was all quite sedate. We spent the rest of the afternoon watching basketball, and I even watched one game with my eyes closed. For our food adventure of the day, we tried another local Mexican joint called Habaneros. We just had to compare their Mole Chicken with our favorite place in Phoenix. Las Cruces is the pepper growing center of the Southwest, so the dishes are a bit more spicy here (I would even say hot). We couldn't decide who won the contest, but we enjoyed the mole chicken plate tonight. For a final treat, we enjoyed some frozen custard at the very busy Caliches. Las Cruces has been a nice stop. Sunny Acres is an excellent RV park, the pace here is laid back, and the Organ Mountains provide a constant chance to experience the majesty of creation. All you have to do is look up. The bottom line is that life is good, especially today.

The view from our front room.

These frat boys played a nice brand of Smoove Groove (Jazz).
Walter, a one man band, layered nice bluesy riffs with the aide of his electronics.
 Art shot of the day.
A happy heart is surely a healthy heart.
Ocotillo cactus and adobe beige. Quite pleasing.
If I lived in the Southwest, I'd want the center of my home to feature a central courtyard.

Or maybe I'd choose to live as the indigenous people lived.

We almost decided to stay, but it was a week away.

The Wylie Cager and her game winning grin.

So much to choose from at the Habaneros Cafe.
They serve what they call "Welcome Soup".
We chose the Chicken Mole Plate. Quite tasty.
The Organ Mountains, kissed with the warm light of the setting sun.
Thanks to brother Kel, who introduced us to the sweet treat, we seldom pass up a chance to eat the frozen delicacy.
Good night, Fric. Good night, Frac. Thanks be to God.
