Adventure 626: Holiday RV Park, North Platte, NE

Six hours of straigh
t as a string driving on I-80 from Rawlins, WY to North Platte, NE has us safely nestled in site #51, which I'm sure is the same site we occupied the last time we were in North Platte. We stopped for lunch in Pine Dale, Wy at a very satisfying rest stop just off the freeway. We took time for a game of crib, a nice lunch, and a leisurely walk on the nature walk behind the rest area. My overwhelming impression of today's journey is the incredible number of trucks on the road. We haven't been on I-80 for awhile, but certainly shipping commerce is alive and well in the US. And of course, there is the ubiquitous road construction. Three times traffic condensed to one lane, each time for eleven miles, and one exchange involving a couple of overpasses looks to me to be in danger of not being completed by winter. In all, it was a satisfying day of travel, although the plains of Western Wyoming and the grasslands of Nebraska offer little in the way of scenic beauty. Nonetheless, many folks live sprinkled out among the flatlands, proving once again that home is where you hang your hat. Mercies willing, we'll arrive in Manhattan tomorrow afternoon to begin a full week of "sister" time. What could be better? I'm sure my Bunny shout, "Life is good, especially today."

Given more time, we could have extended this walk all the way to the top of the bluff.

A couple of lovely Kansas sunflowers.

Art shot of the day: Glue left behind from what was once a trail sign.
