Adventure 457: Ashland Shakespeare Festival/Jack-Ronda Low Country Boil

Ronda and Jack
On the road again; can't wait to get on the road again. After the flurry of last weekend's birthday bash, and witnessing the final 3% of Elizabeth's adulthood maturation process, we left Spokane just before ten on Monday, June 4th. Our destination was Madras, Oregon where we'd park in front of Jack and Ronda Pierson's home. For those of you new to these adventures, Jack and Ronda live across the street from where George lived in Madras. They acted as visiting angels on more than one occasion. Ronda taxied George to medical appointments; she climbed through the kitchen window when Margaret locked herself out of the house, and they otherwise made themselves available as good neighbors. We've become friends as a result. For this adventure to Ashland, their home made for a perfect first night stop. WOW! did they welcome us. Jack, who grew up in Brunswick, Georgia presented us with a Low Country Boil, (Sounds like "bowl" in Jack's soft southern drawl). Regardless, the boil consists of onions, fingerling potatoes, sausage chunks, corn on the cob, and shrimp boiled to perfection and seasoned with a dry mixture of paprika, celery salt and chili pepper. The process is simple. Boil water. Add seasoning. Add potatoes, cob corn, onions, and sausage. Cook until potatoes are tender. Add shrimp. Cook until pink. The Southern chef (Jack) then removes the basket of cooked food from the boiling pot and pours the entire mess onto a clean table cloth. The patrons (Us) then proceed to eat standing up with our fingers. No plates or forks necessary. Afterwards, the cleanup crew (Jack) wraps the entire mess of chewed cobs and shrimp skins into the plastic table cloth and places the entire thing into the trash. No muss. No fuss. For dessert, Ronda made a supremely delightful mixture of lemon and cool whip on top of a gram cracker crust. It was all simply delicious. Plump as sows ready for market, we then retired to our respective trailers, and slept like well contented Southerners. Charmed, I'm sure that we are living the good life, especially yesterday.

A full grown woman, Libby paid for her windshield replacement with her own car insurance. Life is really good when you're blessed with superior children.
Fric and Frac parked curbside at the Pierson RV Park.
Our friends, Dave and Liz Ulmen took site number one.

A practiced expert, Jack spread the goodies onto the table.
A small rearrangement of the table cloth and the feast was set.
Four Northerners about to become Southern for the night.
 Dig in.

Shake a leg and dig in some more.
Shake the other leg and dig in some more.
 Shells and cob debris.

Ronda's lemon goop for dessert. YUM!
