Adventure 356: Gonzales, Texas/Post B

Last sunset in Gonzales
Saturday, as usual, is cleaning day: laundry, grocery shopping, trailer swabbing. It's all pretty easy when there's less than a 100 square feet. We then drove seven miles to State Road 443, an excellent bucolic, low traffic road that we road out and back on for just over an hour. We're on the edge of hill country around here, so the road wasn't flat, but neither of us felt any worse for the wear. I think that means we're getting strong like senior steel. Anyway, the bright sun, the light wind, the pleasant view of  a few off white, long eared cattle called Brahmans, a few jet black ones called Angus, a few brown ones just called cattle, and miles and miles of Texas surrounded us. It was a good ride. When we got back, we had messages. One from Dinah Coble, who is afraid we love Texas so much we may move here. No worries. The flies alone will keep us away. The other message was a humorous song left by Mark Nafziger about RV life. Both messages made us smile. We watched the Zags beat Pacific in the afternoon, and then we went for an early evening drive to find the Two Rivers Bible Church we're going to attend tomorrow. Along the way, we stopped at a local Sonic so Judy could get a Diet Cherry Limeade (She would have ordered a corndog if her sister, Karen, was with us). Instead, we decided not to cook in since the inside temperature of the trailer was above eighty-five (Which is partly why we went for a drive), so we went to the Matamoros Taco Hut, which is quite possibly the best food we've eaten in quite awhile. From the freshly fried home made chips to the pleasingly warm home made tortillas to the exquisite enchiladas verde served with perfectly cooked home made beans and rice. The whole family from grandma to auntie to mom to son, and maybe a couple other relatives were working, smiling, and living the good life. The friendly family and the fine food not only fed our hunger; it also fed our souls. This a the best reason to travel. People all over are just living the dream. It's encouraging. While we were eating, we got a face time call from our grand daughters. It's a little bitter sweet since we miss them, but the magic of technology makes it less so. The call topped off a pretty good day, which of course led us to exclaim in unison, "Life is good, especially today"!

Miles and miles of State road 443.
 Smiles of strength!
Old homesteads like this one dot the countryside. Another nod to Texan history.
Sucking up the Cherry Limeade. How can life get any better.
If you ever pass through Gonzales, Texas, this place is a must stop.
 Fresh chips. Very hot sauces.
The picture of this dish of enchiladas verde is a little blurry because both Judy and I were so hot to get at it, the plate wiggled like a scared chihuahua.
Grand daughter Sarah Beara on the Face Time. We also had a sighting of Emily. FUN!
Fresh, warm tortillas. Oh, my! How can such simple stuff taste so good?
