Adventure 108: Faywood Hot Springs/Post B

Frac soaking up the rays.
Well, first I thought the cribbage gods were punishing the wily cager because when she beat me this morning (It's starting to be a little too often), she whined that the veinte cuatro she got on the last hand was wasted. I skunked her in game two, so naturally I thought she was on the bad side of the fickle fates, but then she whomped me this afternoon to tie the score in the Faywood Open. So who knows about the fecklessly fickle fates. We broke out the tandem for a little over twenty miles in the windless, sky blue perfection of southwest New Mexico. Our goal was to ride to the Post Office in the 'town' of Faywood to mail a postcard. The Post Office is there, and the town has a church plus maybe a dozen inhabitants. No other services are provided. This is ranch country judging from the beef on a hoof we saw roaming the arroyos, but it takes a hearty soul to exist out here. After we returned, I managed to soak in many of the pools today (Four at last count), and I even started a water color. The Bunny practiced a little Jukelele. She has House of the Rising Sun to a level ready for open mic night in Silver City. We listened to the community radio station today, and the announcer was giving the week's calendar of events for Silver City. Open mic is Saturday night at the local brew pub. We may go. They've likely never heard the blissful pluckings of my Bunny rocking on her ukelele, and after all that picking practice in Luchenbach, she's a featured act by now. On a weather front, they say we have another good day of bicycle riding before the cold front (Snow maybe) comes through on Thursday. We're going to experience another of those forty degree shifts that have been so prevalent during our time in the southwest. No matter, we'll enjoy our time here even if we have to hunker down. I mean what better place to face a little cold front than soaking in a hot pool, so once again I must say, "Life is good, especially today."
No wind. No sounds.  A few vehicles. Very pleasant riding.
Taylor Mountain in the background. Some years it has snow. Not so this year, probably much to the chagrin of the owners of the Thistle Dew Ranch.
San Jose Catholic Church in Faywood, established in 1883. Mass every other Sunday at 3:30 P.M.
Post Master is the only paying job I could see in Faywood, New Mexico.
Things are shaky when a green transfer box is the only thing interesting enough to take a picture of.
Judy, a little sad because they didn't have an opening for Assistant Post Master.
So we rode back to the Hot Springs. In another month, the Yucca on the right will be sporting its white blossoms. According to the locals, July and August are the monsoon season, which means it rains a little every day. The rain cools the desert heat from over a hundred to the low eighties. Not only that, but the desert flowers then bloom in September. It would be a good time to visit.
Thin gruel for lunch: Sweet Potato Tacos, veggie plate, and fruit (What NO BBQ!).
This truck is emerging from a dressing room on the way to the public pools.
I'm not willing to venture in, but I've seen two locals (women) use this facility, so….?
I shared the pool with this buxom babe. I guess if you soak long enough, the minerals start to have an effect.
Art shot: The fence shadows just before sunset.
The hottest pool on the property: Clothing optional.
Metallic dragonflies. Nicely done piece of art, but hard to photograph (It does't show up).
