Adventure 93: Pecan Grove RV Park/Austin, TX/Post M

Last night at the Continental Club. So long, Y'all.
Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi. He would have been 79 years old this Wednesday, and tonight Dale Watson and his Lone Stars dedicated the evening to Elvis songs mixed in with a little honky tonk. This made the fourth time we've seen Dale since we've been in Austin, and if we had the chance we'd see him again. Besides really good honky tonk music, he is fabulously entertaining, capable of incredible spontaneity, and he is disarmingly funny. Best of all, his music is easy to dance to. He may be the last live music we listen to (I hope to go out one more time) this trip in Austin, and he's been well worth it. Aside from an enjoyable two hours of music this evening (It's past midnight), we spent much of the day running errands (It's not just fun and games out here in adventure land; tomorrow is laundry day, for example). We made a resupply run to the Costco store (Judy said it made her feel like she was at home, especially after she made a couple of impulse buys). We ran by the REI store for another little touch of home (I think the visits from our friends made us homesick). We made a run to refill our propane tank. And we made a trip to Passport America to get immunized for our service trip to Honduras in March. And, of course, we made another delicious stop at TacoDeli (TacoDaily we call it). In between, I stretch my lead to 4-0 in the Austin Open (I don't like the wily cager's chances this round). We then settled in for dinner at home (Frac), and watched the first half of the National Championship game before going out to listen to Dale. We noticed a definite decline in the nightlife on this Monday, it being the first full work week after the holidays. Most kids in Austin returned to school today, and the schools were open despite the unusually cold temperatures. Even the crowd at the Continental Club was lighter than last week. Nonetheless, the entertainment was top notch and delightfully entertaining which meant life is good, especially today.

The Hunny Bunny getting more beautiful (As if that's possible).

Not really selfies. We call these "bunnies".
 There's a "bunny".
Two cowboy tacos (One for my friend, Dave. He really liked it).
Judy's taco looks a little lonely. Tomorrow she'll have to find this one a friend.
But when we leave Austin, it's back to the thin gruel.
And new memory foam to reinforce our mattress.
The finished product after we trimmed the foam to fit (You should see Judy wield a French knife).
REI isn't real big in Austin, but it reminded us of home.
Judy filling out the paper work on our immunization chart.
Elisa Pearson: What a nice lady (And a great nurse-a no pain poker). She was a wealth of information for our upcoming trip to Honduras, and immensely helpful in helping us sort out the process of immunization. What's more, she was just another example of the genuinely kind and friendly Texans we've met. She's only part Austin, though, because she comes from Houston. They must be nice down there as well.

Texans are even proud of their urinals.
Dale Watson's guitar. He taped an episode of Austin City Limits that will be aired February 8th. Don't miss it.
Dale launching into his first song of the night. On Mondays at the Continental Club, he comes on stage about ten fifteen and plays straight through until one forty-five.Impressive value for the $7 cover charge.
Part of his Monday night thing is to interact with the crowd when they buy him drinks. He enjoys Lone Star beer and shots of tequila.
These two sisters were from North Dakota (-51 degrees tonight). They bought him a drink and he improvised a song about North Dakota on the spot.
The guy in the red shirt, Charlie-a regular, danced with nearly every girl in the club. He's about 80, and Dale kept interacting with him from the stage. Very funny stuff. If Y'all ever get to Austin,Texas, make sure to see Dale and his Lone Stars while you're there. You will love it, even if you aren't honky tonk fans.
