Adventure 89: Pecan Grove RV Park/Austin, TX/Post I

Happy Hour every Thursday. Come on down Y'all
After the best bargain ever at TacoDaily (For us-we were too late for official breakfast at the TacoDeli), we bought ten leftover breakfast tacos for $13 dollars. Afterwards we took a driving tour around Travis Lake, which is about twenty miles northeast of Austin. Travis Lake is really a reservoir, but right now it is nearly a rese-pond. The reservoir is below normal level by 52 feet. I'm not much of a mathematician, but that seems like quite a few cubic feet. Several half-million and up houses rim the lake, and peek up through the mesquite trees like shiny white castles. It was a fun drive through the hill country just outside the city. Our food highlight of the day was a visit to HopDoddy's, a trendy farm fresh spot on Congress Street where the line has been around the corner everyday since we've been here. The wait was worth it. Judy and I shared a Sushi quality Ahi tuna burger that was just fabulous. We also had parmesan fries that were to die for, and our  waitress, a born and bred Austin girl, was as cute as she was sweet. For entertainment, we caught the Whisky Sisters at the Continental Club. The sisters played on the New Year's Eve bill of Austin City Limits with Willie Nelson and Delbert McClinton. We saw them for $5 bucks a head. That won't last long because they are cute, energetic, talented, and they have been "discovered". I find myself wondering what it takes for a musician to break through to the big time (Whatever that is). Every act we've seen in our time here has had an obvious love for what they're doing. Maybe it's zeal that's makes a person a success. Maybe it's love for the art. Maybe it's being in the right place. Maybe it's working steady for thirty years to perfect a craft. I don't know, but musicians populate Austin like pecans falling from the trees. I do wonder how many get picked up, have their shells removed, and provide enjoyment for consumers. For the late shift, we grabbed a few slices of pieces, a couple of cans of Lone Star beer, and cheered the Zags to a win over the St. Mary's Gaels. Go Zags. We have a couple more days to enjoy Austin with the Ulmen's, so who knows what adventures will surface tomorrow. I do know (Sadly) that we're passing up our TacoDaily stop to get in line early at a BBQ joint called Franklin's. They open at 11 A.M. and close as soon as they sell out. They've been closed every time we've driven by. Tomorrow, we plan to open the joint, but that's tomorrow, and it's not promised, so for now life is good, especially today.

Right here were about thirty feet under water in Travis Lake if there was any. The Austin area has been suffering what they call a "medium" drought. Other areas have been hit harder.
Look at the little Cat Bilu look alike. (Catalina 22: a hall of fame design for trailer sailboats.)
Really? Standing in line for a hamburger!
Fresh everything, including the Austin cool man vibe, and not just tourists frequent the place.
Though I'm not drinking, I love the fourth tap from the left. (Lawnmower Beer).
More lines inside. Now we're standing in line to order, after we stood in line to get drinks!
 Cute.
One half of the fresh tuna burger. No lines here!
 Carnivores ready to pounce.
Just up the street is Allen boots. You can pick up any pair for about $800.00.

Iconic Congress Street on a blue cool day.
The Whiskey Sisters played a few songs plucking their Ukeleles. Whiskey Sisters - Living After Midnight

Go Zags. What no Lone Star?
Oh, there they are. We're doing our best to keep Austin weird.
