Glad we are to be nestled in our shady grove of mature locust trees. The Animas river chortles near by, the wind is gentle and cool, the neighbors are five times the social distance away, and we've exchanges friendly waves. Our drive today followed a nicely appointed two lane road for a mere two hours. We left Durango a little after ten, lollygagging for most of the morning. Arriving at Sky Mountain RV Resort, we were guided to our spot by a very fit 79 and friendly year old guy named John. This place will serve us very well for the next three days. It will be good to relax after driving the team hard to get here. After setting up, we drove into town, walked around a bit, stopped at a yarn store that our friend Dinah Coble would love, and visited the local grocery store where most people were masked up. Chama itself is nothing to write home about, but the surrounding ranch land is picturesque, and it's the Toltec Railroad that anchors the town. Tomorrow, we'll ride the train. I expect it to be spectacular. As for entertainment, for the last two nights, we've been watching old Westerns, mostly filmed in the late forties. Last night's title, Comanche Territory, starred Maureen O'Hara and Macdonald Carey. The scenery in the movie looked as though it could have been set right where we are. The night before we watched Albuquerque, starring Randolph Scott. Tonight, I think we'll watch The Spoilers, starring John Wayne and Marlene Dietrich. It feels good to fall back into some simpler days where the good guys are loyal and the bad guys get what they deserve. As for us, we're trying to be good guys who are ever grateful that life is good, especially today. Chimney Rock, Colorado style.
We met a little road construction today. This guy inspired us.
