Kral RV parking permit. |
We were granted traveling mercies once again as we swam with the big dogs (Semi-trucks), other RVs, and an incredible amount of automobiles bearing Texas license plates. It took us just under five hours to travel from Las Cruces to Tucson, I-10 all the way. About a hundred miles from Tucson we pulled off to tour Willcox, Arizona. We did the form in the town park and roamed the historical "old town", which is where Rex Allen, the famed Arizona Cowboy came from. Rex made his name as an actor and film maker, and late in his career narrated many of Disney's nature and Western productions. Willcox was a pleasant surprise, since we mostly stopped because we thought it would be a big enough town to have a city park. The historical part of town runs right beside the railroad. There is a classic train station, and it's not hard to imagine some Eastern city slickers back in the day stepping off the train in Willcox in hopes of striking it rich. We also had one mini adventure as we entered Tucson. Our trusted "Susie", the Garmin GPS we've relied on for more that six years, has started losing her memory. Actually, it seems her memory is so full she can't process quite quickly enough (Sounds a lot like us). Anyway, we decided to replace her with a new model, so we braved a visit to Costco along with the rest of Tucson's population. It's quite a feat wheeling a truck and trailer around a full Costco parking lot, but Frac dutifully followed and the good news is that we successfully bought a replacement for "Susie"--to be known as "Susie Too". From there we arrived at the Kral's unscathed, fairly fresh, and happy to see our friends. First stop, of course was a tour of their new kitchen, which they had to replace due to some serious water damage over the winter. It's quite stunning, and only the back splash tile needs to be finished for it to be a work of art. We spent the afternoon under the back deck catching up, and in the late afternoon, we took a swim. We'll spend tomorrow night here as well so we can join David and Ginny at church in the morning. From there, we'll head to Phoenix for most of next week. I'll be praying extra hard tomorrow for mercy as I travel through the spaghetti maze of the Phoenix freeway system. Life is pretty good, especially today.
Fabulous (And quite old) willow trees border the railroad park in Willcox.
Downtown Willcox. The venerable movie theater is currently active and showing the new movie "Kong".
Dangerous Dolly's: the local antique store.
These biddies are the welcoming part of the welcoming committee.
A full sized bronze of Rex Allen sits strumming his guitar right across the street from the "Cowboy Museum".
A side view of the new Kral kitchen. This used to be a pantry.
The other side, minus the backsplash, houses the sink and stove. The counter space and cupboard space is roughly double what they used to have.
Celebratory beer that I brought from the High Desert Brewery.
Master Kral enjoying a hot soak after his cool swim,
Mrs. Kral enjoying a spalsh.
Fric and Frac nestled quite happily in their space at the Kral RV Park.
