Even the daisies are up early. |
We got up early this morning to hike three miles to the hot springs. It was the longest three miles I've ever hiked, especially on the way back after I had been basted in the 101 degree water and felt a little bit like a Sunday dinner chicken minus the carrots and potatoes. The hot springs, while quite natural (The pools are slippery and filled with a fine muddy sediment). Nonetheless, the effort was worth it. We spent the rest of the day lounging under our shaded area beside the campsite. I painted awhile. Judy got the binocs out to search for birds. Basically, it was just another day in paradise. But I will tell you, paradise is quite warm (90 now), and like one lady I met in Terlingua said, "This is God's country because nobody else wanted it." I'm not sure about that. The National Parks laid claim to about 800,000 acres, and I hope the park service manages to keep this place pristine. Whatever happens, and we're trusting that God has a plan, we're lucky enough to enjoy the good life, especially today.
Selfie of the day: Still fresh on the trail to the hot springs.
We found a couple of heart shaped rocks, which makes us think of our friend, Liz Ulmen.
Only a mile or so to go to get to the springs.
Judy trying to pick a fight with a dagger yucca.
Ooh, la, la, the hot springs.
Yes, life is good, especially today.
We were lucky enough to enjoy the hot springs all to ourselves.
Smiling selfie.
My bunny after her quick change. And then the long hike home.
