Adventure 87: Pecan Grove RV ParkAustin, TX/Post G

The New Year's Eve line up at the Continental Club.
Well, you know a day couldn't start in Austin for us without a stop at the TacoDeli. We even made it for the breakfast tacos, and yet again, they were scrumptious. After the tacos (Judy had two), we took advantage of the warmer and sunnier day to walk the river trail down to the Barton Springs to show the Ulmen's Austin's very favorite swimming hole. They enjoyed both the natural wonder enhanced by man's ingenuity and the good stretch of the legs. We didn't stop there, but drove up to UT to walk a little bit around the campus. The University of Texas is impressive. Over fifty thousand students attend the school, and I heard a big booster on TV say about the hiring of a new football coach, "We don't have money issues. Hell, all the money not in the Vatican is up there at UT." It certainly does have a presence about it. We were hungry (Of course) after our walks, so we got a quick burger at Dirty Martin's. It was just a little nosh to tide us over before dinner, which was seafood pasta that I cooked after we joined half of Austin at the local grocery store. Then we rested for the night shift. You regular readers may be noticing the pattern we've fallen into trying to squeeze every bit of pleasure we can from Austin's night club scene. Tonight, we had tickets to Jimmy Vaughn and the Tilt o' Whirls, but two shows were before him. First, we listened to a local singer, Toni Price. She was a hoot, and she is very talented. They then kicked us all out of the club to have us reenter for the late show. We timed it perfectly (Actually, Judy did), and we were first in line to get back in. This meant we got to sit on the primo leather couches along the side of the club. The first act was a couple of teenage brothers, The Peterson's. The played for an hour and were amazing. The lead guitar player is seventeen. His brother, the bass player, is fourteen. I don't  think they spend much time on term papers. Jimmy Vaughn came on just as the New Year ball dropped in Austin. He finished up right before two, and he was simply fabulous. Once again, a  half day into the new year, I must say, Life is good, especially today.
Authentic, hot, cheap, and delicious. A repeat performance almost every day so far.
Mr. Ulmen enjoying the Colorado River.
Barton Springs Pool. The orange netting is a little refurbishing during the winter.
Judy and Liz. They're as cute as any Longhorn coeds.
My art shot of the day. The boots of one of the sculptures in the main quad.
 Mythical riders in Poseidon's navy.
In Texas, they call this the Main Building.
Longhorn pride is evident nearly everywhere.
I just love the live oak trees.
Let's see. How about a burger and some fried pickles. We ate ONLY an hour ago.
Toni Price. Way entertaining! Tumbleweed by Toni Price at the Continental Club Happy Hour in Austin, TX

Here we are, first in line.

Look at this little New Year cutie.

A couple of revelers from out of town. "Y'all not from roun here, are ya."
 The Peterson brothers.
Jimmy Vaughn and guest singer, Lou Ann Barton.
Jimmy, screaming a few licks from behind his head. Jimmie Vaughan Tilt A Whirl

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Y'ALL.

  2. Happy New Year guys! I just found your blog and am. . .hungry! Great job on the prolific posting, keep it up. I should've guessed you would have an eye for photography in addition to your watercoloring. Are you finding any time to paint between being dominated by Judy's card talents?! Costa Rica is still treating us well despite bitten goat ears (Casper) and blocked roads (cows and trees). Have a great 2014. xo Lisa and family

    1. Great to hear things are going well in Costa Rica. Weatherwise, and maybe a few other reasons, I wish I was there, but since I am where I am I must love it. Besides food and sightseeing, we are also managing to average over 10,000 steps. One helps offset the other. Best to you. Tell Bells Hi. and of course, remember that life is good, especially today.
